Mount Esja, also know as Esjan, is a 2,999ft mountain range which looms over Reykjavík.
The patrol, nearing the peak.
We climbed Þverfellshorn (one of the many peaks) as a unit, with a handful of us reaching the peak.
Even though it's one of the most popular peaks in Iceland, it can still be a challenge - with the surface getting progressively looser and the drops getting steeper and longer. Towards the peak we started using the chains and pegs hammered into the side of the mountain.
